2025 Matchplay Championship Grand Final at Quinta do Lago, Algarve

In January 2026 the Grand Final of the TravisMathew, Matchplay Championship will return to Portugal and fittingly will be staged at the Quinta do Lago Resort on Portugal’s Algarve coast, voted Europe’s Best Golf Venue 2024 in the World’s Golf Awards.

Quinta do Lago Grand Final – 4–8 January 2026

The prize of a place in the Grand Final includes:

  • Return economy flights from UK to Faro or £150 towards booking own flight
  • 4 nights shared 4 star accommodation
  • 4 rounds of golf including – 2 x South Course, 1 x North Course & 1 x Laranjal
  • TravisMathew logo’d finalists apparel
  • Airport & golf course transfers in Portugal
  • Welcome drinks & presentation party

How does the tournament work?

  • Two separate matchplay competitions - Individual and Betterball pairs
  • Entry fee: Pairs - £60 per pair Individual - £40
  • Entries close Monday 5th May. Play starts first week in June
  • The draw is made on a regional basis to minimise travelling
  • Matches are played at home or opponent’s course – many courses offer courtesy
  • Up to four knockout matches played between June and end of September
  • Winners of four matches qualify for one of the Regional Finals in October
  • Leading pairs and individuals at Regional Finals qualify for the Grand Final Quinta do Lago, Algarve, Portugal

Individual Regional Finals venues & dates:

  • Sandwell Park GC – 23 October: leading 8 individuals qualify for Grand Final in Portugal

Betterball Regional Final venues & dates:

  • Scotland – Lanark GC – 15 October: leading Pair & Individual qualify for Portugal
  • North – Sand Moor GC – 16 October: leading 4 pairs qualify for qualify for Portugal
  • South – Pyrford Lakes – 22 October: leading 4 pairs qualify for Portugal

Betterball Regional Finals

Those pairs winning four matches will advance to one of the regional finals in October 2025. Competitors will be assigned a regional final on a geographical basis.

  • The format will be Betterball Stableford with a 85% handicap allowance.
  • Participants need to provide their CDH Number before the regional final.
  • Accommodation and travel arrangements are the responsibility of participants.
  • The leading pairs from each Regional Final, depending on the number of pairs taking part on the day, qualify for the Grand Final in Portugal, January 2026.

Individual Regional Finals

Individuals who win four matches will earn a place in the regional finals in October 2025.

There will be a separate Regional Final for competitors in Scotland and competitors from England and Wales will compete at a Regional Final in the Midlands.

  • The format will be Individual Stableford with a 95% handicap allowance.
  • Participants need to provide their CDH Number before the regional final.
  • Accommodation and travel arrangements are the responsibility of participants.
  • The leading individual in Scotland and the leading 8 individuals in the England & Wales Regional Final will qualify for the Grand Final in Portugal.
