David Hughes
David has a BSc from Liverpool Poly and an MSc in Recreation Management from Loughborough Uni.
After working as a surveyor in London, the Middle East and South East Africa during his 20’s he
had a complete career change and joined the PGA as a Tournament Director.
Five years of managing professional tournaments on the Ladies European Tour was great grounding for setting up
GMM followed by two years in club management which helped develop administrative skills. David set
up the Matchplay Championship in 1996 and the Tour in 1997 and has had great pleasure from a career
which combines his passion for golf, travel and working with people.
Unfortunately, David’s golf is now in decline. After a short spell as a professional and twelve years
off scratch he is struggling to maintain 6.6 but is enjoying social golf with his friends and makes
the occasional appearance on Tour.
Mike Laney
Mike was Club Champion at his home club Shirehampton Park in Bristol back in 1982 aged just 18 years old.
Mike played for Gloucestershire County for many years and was 3 handicap at 15 years of age, by the time he was
30 he was playing off six so he peaked young as a player!
Mike has worked his whole life in the golf business. After 12 years in Sales & Marketing at Wilson Golf he moved
into golf event management and has been a valuable member of the GMM Team since 2009.
In his spare time Mike will either be on a beach or in a nice Indian restaurant!
Debbie McNamara
Debbie has worked in the travel industry for over 30 years firstly working in the Midlands for an independent travel agent
and then at Pickfords Travel. After reaching a management position at Pickfords Travel she then opened her own ABTA
travel agency Water Orton Travelcentre in 1989 and despite these difficult times the agency is still going well.
Debbie and her family moved from the Midlands to North Wales in 2001 to run an 18-bedroom hotel in Llandudno,
winning TripAdvisor awards along the way. After 17 years it was time for change and Debbie joined the team at GMM in 2018.
Debbie loves football and supports Birmingham City but also enjoys watching some great football as a Manchester City season
ticket holder! Her partner is from Manchester and he has been a lifelong fan but now he also has to
watch Championship matches at Birmingham City to keep her happy.
Kelly Wynne
Kelly first came to work for GMM in July 1998 after qualifying in Business & Secretarial. After 10 years (with not one day’s sick taken!), she left to build a family. 10 years later with 3 children, she couldn’t stay away… or as Kelly would say “glutton for punishment!”. Outside of work, Kelly enjoys keeping fit, the great outdoors and learning Spanish.
Gareth Roberts
Gareth has extensive golf experience, having represented Wales before becoming PGA-qualified. He also has a degree in Retail Management from Bangor University in Wales and is TPI certified. Gareth worked as an Assistant Professional at North Wales Golf Club before moving on to become Tournament Executive at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai. In his spare time, he can be found cheering for Wrexham Football Club alongside Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
