Be part of the inaugural Match, Celtic Manor Resort – 22 & 23 October 2024

Package includes:

  • Tuesday 22 Oct – Morning tee times on the Montgomerie Course, followed by dinner, bed & breakfast at the Ty Hotel, Celtic Manor’s latest addition, based on twin double room occupancy;

  • Wednesday 23 Oct – Breakfast followed by morning tee of on the famous Twenty Ten Course host to the 2010 Ryder Cup, presentation

  • Every competitor will receive a free TravisMathew polo shirt, retail value £60, in their team colour and logo.

  • Both rounds will count for merit points and these will be the last two UK OoM rounds of the 2024 season

We are organising The Match which will be a three-way competition between those golfers who used to play on the FORE Tour or the Volvo Amateur Golf Tour or currently play on the Global Amateur Golf Tour. Entries are open to all past and current members of the Tour.

The main aim of the inaugural Match is to bring together golfers who at some point have played on the Tour and over time have lost touch with each other. Whilst there will bound to be a lot of pride at stake the result is not intended to be the main outcome but it will provide a great opportunity to get together to play some excellent golf courses followed by a ‘few’ drinks and a lot of fun and catching up.

It is very fitting that The Match will include one round over The Twenty Ten Course at Celtic Manor, host of the 2010 Ryder Cup Course which coincidentally also hosted our Volvo Tour Final in October 2008 when competitors came off the course saying it was too hot for golf – in October in Wales! – the sun has always shone on the Tour.

Everyone is welcome to enter, regardless of your current standard of golf, and we will divide players up into three teams representing the FORE Tour, the VAGT or the GAGT.  We are currently holding space for 48 golfers and judging by the response on Facebook we may need to book more spaces.

We hope the idea of The Match will stir up sufficient enthusiasm to encourage entries from past, present and future Tour members and we look forward to a lot of fun in Celtic Manor in October.

    Tuesday, 22nd October:

    Arrival at Celtic Manor Resort
    11:00 AM: Tee off at Montgomerie Course for your first round of golf
    Followed by dinner at the     Celtic Manor Resort restaurant

    Wednesday, 23rd October:

    Breakfast at the Ty Hotel
    Check out from the hotel and head to the Twenty Ten Course
    10:20 AM: Tee off at the Twenty Ten Course for your second round of golf
    Presentation after your round and depart from Celtic Manor Resort

  • Event Format

    The event format will be an Individual Stableford format, with your Playing Handicap set at 95% of your Course Handicap. As an Individual Stableford event, scores will count towards your handicap. Team Match scoring will be determined based on the number of entries. We welcome both male and female golfers to participate in all of our events.
