  • The Legend of Pebble Beach

Some places are special. Some places are legendary. And then there is Pebble Beach.

Standing on the rugged coastline of California’s Monterey Peninsula, where the Pacific Ocean crashes against the cliffs and the fairways cling to the shoreline, lies a golf course that has captured the imagination of golfers around the world for more than a century.

Pebble Beach Golf Links is not simply a golf course. It is a piece of golfing history. And for many golfers, it is the ultimate bucket-list destination.

As Jack Nicklaus once explained, it was the drama of the course and the complete test of golf that first captivated him. It is easy to understand why. Few courses combine such breathtaking scenery, such a rich championship history and such an extraordinary golfing challenge.

    A Century of Greatness

Since opening in 1919, Pebble Beach has become one of the most recognisable names in world golf. Designed by Jack Neville and Douglas Grant, the course was created to embrace the spectacular coastline, bringing golfers closer to the ocean than almost anywhere else in the game.

Its reputation grew as it welcomed the world's greatest players, hosting its first U.S. Open in 1972. Since then, its fairways have witnessed some of golf's most unforgettable moments, with champions including Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Tom Kite, Tiger Woods and Graeme McDowell etching their names into its history.

But Pebble Beach is not famous simply because of the champions who have won there. It is famous because of the moments that have made golf history.

    Moments That Became Immortal

1972 — Jack Nicklaus and the one-iron heard around the golfing world.

In the final round of the U.S. Open, Nicklaus faced the treacherous 17th hole in difficult, windswept conditions. His remarkable one-iron shot struck the flagstick and finished close to the hole, helping secure a victory that would become one of the defining moments of his career.

    1982 — Tom Watson's moment of magic.

With the U.S. Open hanging in the balance, Watson chipped in for birdie from beside the 17th green. It was a moment of extraordinary nerve and skill, securing a two-shot victory over Nicklaus and creating one of the most famous finishes in championship golf.

2000 — Tiger Woods dominates the world.

In one of the greatest performances golf has ever witnessed, Woods won the U.S. Open by an astonishing 15 strokes. His record-breaking victory remains the largest winning margin in the history of men's major championships.

These are the stories that have made Pebble Beach legendary. And in 2027, you will have the opportunity to create a story of your own.

    Three Holes. Three Unforgettable Experiences.

The 7th — Small in size, enormous in character.

A short par three perched dramatically above the Pacific Ocean. At first glance, it might look straightforward, but the exposed setting and ever-changing coastal winds can make club selection a real test. It is one of golf's most photographed holes, and a moment you will want to savour.

The 8th — A shot across the ocean.

One of the most spectacular holes in golf. The fairway curves around the coastline before the approach demands a carry across the ocean inlet to a green set dramatically above the water. It is a hole that rewards courage, demands precision and delivers a view that will stay with you long after the round is over.

    The 18th — A finish worthy of a legend.

Few finishing holes anywhere in the world are as instantly recognisable. The fairway follows the edge of Stillwater Cove, with the Pacific alongside you as you make your way towards the green. It has decided championships, witnessed history and provided the backdrop to countless golfing dreams.

Now imagine standing on that 18th fairway yourself, with the ocean beside you and the clubhouse ahead. Whatever your score, you will know you have played somewhere truly extraordinary.

    Your Place in Golfing History

There are rounds of golf you enjoy, rounds you remember and rounds you talk about for the rest of your life.

Pebble Beach has the potential to be all three.

It is the anticipation of arriving at the course. The first glimpse of the Pacific. The excitement of playing holes you have watched on television for years. The challenge of every shot, the photographs along the coastline and the stories shared afterwards.

And perhaps most importantly, it is the opportunity to stand on the same fairways where golfing legends have competed for the game's greatest prizes.

With the Global Amateur Golf Tour, this is about more than playing golf. It is about experiencing extraordinary destinations, competing alongside fellow golfers and making memories that last a lifetime.

Our 2027 Pebble Beach escape brings together four rounds on three outstanding courses, including two rounds at the legendary Pebble Beach Golf Links, alongside Links at Spanish Bay and Spyglass Hill. Five nights on California's spectacular Monterey Peninsula complete an experience that belongs on every serious golfer's bucket list.

The Question Is: Will You Be There?

For some, Pebble Beach will remain a dream. For others, 2027 could be the year that dream becomes reality.

Imagine returning home with the photographs, the stories and the satisfaction of having played one of the most iconic golf courses on the planet.

The legends have walked these fairways. The history has been written. Now it's your turn to experience it.

  • Accomodation

The Inn at Spanish Bay – Pebble Beach Resorts

Our home for the week will be The Inn at Spanish Bay, allowing guests to stay within the legendary Pebble Beach Resorts and experience far more than simply the golf.

Located on California's spectacular 17-Mile Drive, The Inn occupies a beautiful position overlooking The Links at Spanish Bay, the surrounding pine forest and the Pacific Ocean.

The hotel offers 269 guest rooms and suites, combining contemporary accommodation with the relaxed atmosphere expected from one of America's great golf resorts.

One of the major advantages of staying at Spanish Bay is that the Pebble Beach experience continues long after the final putt of the day.
The Inn offers five on-site dining venues, ranging from relaxed post-round food and drinks to more refined dining, giving guests plenty of options without needing to leave the resort.

Perhaps the hotel's most famous tradition takes place every evening.
As sunset approaches, the Spanish Bay Bagpiper begins playing near the first tee before making his way along the golf course and finishing beside the outdoor fire pits at The Inn.

Sitting around the fire pits with a drink while the bagpiper plays against a Pacific sunset has become one of the signature experiences of Pebble Beach Resorts.

Guests can also explore the spectacular coastline and seaside boardwalk, while the wider Pebble Beach resort provides access to additional dining, leisure and recreational facilities.

Most importantly for this trip, we are staying right in the heart of Pebble Beach Resorts.

Spanish Bay is on the doorstep, with Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill also located within the resort, making The Inn an exceptional base for four days of world-class golf.

Combining a spectacular Pacific setting, luxury accommodation and the atmosphere of one of the world's most famous golfing destinations, The Inn at Spanish Bay makes the accommodation an integral part of the experience rather than simply somewhere to stay between rounds.

For a trip featuring two rounds at Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hill and the newly transformed Links at Spanish Bay, there could hardly be a more fitting place to call home.

  • Courses

    The Links at Spanish Bay

The week begins at The Links at Spanish Bay, and in 2027 GAGT competitors will experience a significantly transformed version of this spectacular coastal course.

Originally opened in 1987 and created by Robert Trent Jones Jr., Tom Watson and former USGA President Sandy Tatum, Spanish Bay was conceived as a tribute to traditional Scottish links golf, with rolling dunes, sandy terrain and the Pacific Ocean providing the backdrop. However, the course enters a new era in April 2027, when it reopens following a major transformation led by acclaimed architect Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner.

The project has been designed to make greater use of Spanish Bay's exceptional coastal landscape, with redesigned greens, new strategic options and changes intended to create a more enjoyable and challenging modern California coastal course.

With the GAGT visit taking place just six months after its reopening, competitors will be among the relatively early visitors to experience the newly transformed Spanish Bay.

The Pacific coastline, exposed terrain and ocean breeze will remain central to the experience, providing a dramatic opening round to an extraordinary four days of golf.

    Pebble Beach Golf Links

There are few names in golf that carry the same significance as Pebble Beach Golf Links.

Opened in 1919 and originally designed by Jack Neville and Douglas Grant, Pebble Beach occupies one of the most spectacular pieces of golfing land in the world, with holes running along the cliffs of California's Monterey Peninsula overlooking Carmel Bay and the Pacific Ocean.

Regularly recognised as America's #1 public golf course, Pebble Beach possesses a championship history matched by very few venues anywhere in the world.

And for the 2027 GAGT event, the timing could hardly be better. Just a few months before our visit, Pebble Beach will host the 2027 U.S. Open – the seventh time the championship has been played here.

Previous U.S. Open champions at Pebble Beach include Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Tom Kite, Tiger Woods, Graeme McDowell and Gary Woodland, with the course responsible for some of the most famous moments in championship golf.

Tiger Woods' extraordinary 15-shot victory in the 2000 U.S. Open remains one of the most dominant performances in major championship history.
Pebble Beach is also the annual home of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and hosted its first U.S. Women's Open in 2023.

The golf course itself is every bit as memorable as its history. The famous stretch from the 6th through the 10th hugs the rugged coastline, while the tiny par-3 7th is one of the most recognisable holes in world golf.

The finishing stretch is equally spectacular, culminating in the legendary par-5 18th, which sweeps around Stillwater Cove with the Pacific Ocean running down the entire left side.

For most golfers, simply playing Pebble Beach once represents a bucket-list experience.

GAGT competitors will play it twice. The first round provides the opportunity to experience one of the world's great golf courses before returning two days later for the final round, with knowledge of the course – and the competition – adding an entirely different dimension.

Two rounds at Pebble Beach Golf Links, just months after the world's best players have competed here for the U.S. Open, will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of the entire 2027 Global Amateur Golf Tour.

    Spyglass Hill Golf Course

Sitting within the same magnificent Del Monte Forest is Spyglass Hill, a course regarded by many golfers as every bit as demanding as its more famous neighbour.

Designed by legendary architect Robert Trent Jones Sr., Spyglass Hill opened in 1966 and has been a championship venue virtually from the beginning.

The opening holes occupy spectacular sandy coastal dunes overlooking the Pacific before the course turns inland and enters the towering pines of the Del Monte Forest.

The result is almost two courses in one.

Exposed coastal holes characterised by sand dunes and ocean views give way to narrow tree-lined corridors, significant elevation changes and demanding approach shots into beautifully protected greens.

Spyglass Hill has been a long-standing tournament venue and has hosted the U.S. Amateur, while for decades it has formed part of the rotation for the PGA TOUR's Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Its championship credentials will become even stronger when it hosts both the U.S. Senior Open and U.S. Senior Women's Open in 2030.

There is also a wonderful connection to Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island, with almost every hole named after a location or character from the famous novel.

At approximately 6,960 yards from the championship tees, Spyglass Hill provides a serious examination of every part of a golfer's game and is widely considered one of America's outstanding public-access courses.
Sandwiched between two rounds at Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill ensures there is absolutely no let-up in the quality of golf during this remarkable week.

Four rounds. Three outstanding Pebble Beach courses. A newly transformed Spanish Bay. Spyglass Hill. And two rounds at Pebble Beach Golf Links just months after the 2027 U.S. Open.

  • Competition Format

72-hole Individual Stableford (95% of Course Handicap)

Handicap Limits: Men – max 24, Women – max 30

GAGT Order of Merit points awarded for each competition round

  • Handicaps

    • Playing Handicaps

Playing Handicaps will be calculated at 95% of a player's Course Handicap.

The maximum Playing Handicap for competition purposes is 24 for men and 30 for women. Players whose calculated Playing Handicap exceeds these limits may still compete but will play off the applicable maximum Playing Handicap.

GAGT Overseas Handicap Adjustment (OHA) System

GAGT operates an Overseas Handicap Adjustment (OHA) system to promote fairness and consistency across its overseas competitions.

The system is based on the CONGU handicap adjustment format used prior to the introduction of the World Handicap System (WHS).

Following each round, a player's OHA may be reduced according to their Stableford score and applicable handicap category.

The OHA system only permits handicap reductions. Handicaps will never be increased under this system, regardless of a player's score.

OHA adjustments apply exclusively to GAGT competition purposes and do not affect a player's official Handicap Index maintained by their home club.

The GAGT OHA system takes precedence over any adjustments made by a player's home club during the event.

      How the OHA System Works

Following each round, players scoring more than 36 Stableford points will receive a handicap reduction based on the number of points scored above 36 and their current OHA handicap category.

The following reduction rates apply for each Stableford point scored above 36:

Current OHA Handicap Category = Reduction per Point Above 36
      1–5 = 0.1
      6–12 = 0.2
      13–20 = 0.3
      21–28 = 0.4
      29–36 = 0.5

The player's updated OHA following each round will determine their handicap category for the next round. Any subsequent reductions will be calculated using that updated category.

      Example

A player with an OHA of 16.0 scores 40 Stableford points.

      - Stableford score: 40 points
      - Points above 36: 4
      - Handicap category: 13–20
      - Reduction rate: 0.3 per point
      - Total reduction: 1.2

The player's OHA will reduce from 16.0 to 14.8 for the next round.

All subsequent adjustments will be calculated using the player's updated OHA.

No OHA increase will be applied following a score of 36 Stableford points or fewer.
