Safari itinerary
Accommodation:
Full board accommodation at Great Rift Valley Lodge will include 1 night arriving on Tuesday 21st November.
3 nights Full board accommodation at Mara Fig Tree Camp in the Masai Mara arriving on Wednesday 22nd November.
Nov 21 Tuesday - Day 1:
Arrive at JKIA on 9:50am morning flight from Mombasa where a 4WD safari Land Cruiser with an experienced driver/guide [This driver and vehicle will be with you for the next 4 nights-5 days] will pick you up for the 2 hour drive to the Great Rift Valley Lodge and Golf Resort.
The drive takes in some stunning scenery with the road climbing to about 7,000 ft as you leave Nairobi before descending the side of the Great Rift Valley. You will have amazing views of Mount Longonot and Lake Naivasha which you will pass before turning off the main road for the short drive up the hill to the Great Rift Valley Lodge and Golf Resort.
You will arrive well in time for lunch, followed by a round of golf. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge.
For those that don’t want to play golf it would be possible to visit Hells Gate National Park, a 45 minute drive away from the lodge after lunch followed by an hour’s boat ride on Lake Naivasha from 17.00-18.00. Or…for the fit and adventurous we could offer a walk up the Semi Dormnant volcano; Mount Longonot. This would be done enroute from the airport in Nairobi to GRVL before checking in. It takes between 45 minutes to 2 hours to walk/climb up to the rim depending on how fit you are. You can then either descend or walk round the rim which takes a total of 4-6 hours.
Nov 22 Weds, 23 Thurs, 24 Friday - Days 2, 3, & 4:
08.00. The driver will be ready to take you to the Masai Mara and 3 nights at Mara Fig Tree Camp. You will drive right across the base of the Rift Valley between the dormant volcanoes Longonot and Suswa, up the other side of the escarpment and into Narok for a short comfort break. The road is excellent the whole way to the Mara Reserve Gate. You will arrive in the Mara for lunch at Fig Tree Camp, a luxury camp situated on the banks of the Talek River.
Wake up calls at 06.00 each day, so you are on your game drives by 06.30 as the sun rises. On one of the mornings, you could choose to take a packed breakfast or lunch and spend longer out on the plains searching for the BIG 5; lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo. The Mara is also one of the best places to see cheetah…you may be lucky! Another ‘once in a lifetime’ option on day 3 is a hot air balloon safari. You take off as the sun rises, drift over the Mara for an hour and then land for a full breakfast. A game drive follows as you return to camp.
Nov 25 Saturday - Day 5: After a final game drive return to Camp for breakfast. 10.00 Depart the Mara for Nairobi, arriving late afternoon. You will have a day room before leaving for the airport check-in at around 20.30 for your flight at 23.25.
