Airport Transfers

Airport transfers are not included, however, Quinta do Lago is only 20 minutes by taxi from Faro Airport and the fare is approximately €30.

Golf Course transfers 

Golf course transfers are not included.  The journey from Quinta do Lago to Monte Rei is approximately 1 hour.  If you require a transfer to Monte Rei from the Conrad Hotel we can organise this through VDL Car Hire or EPI Rent a Car.  The charges for the return journey depends on how many people need transfers, however, the price should be approximately €45 per person for a minibus of 5 passengers or €80 for a car of two passengers.

Uber taxis are very reasonable and generally very efficient on the Algarve.

Hire Car

Should you wish to hire a car we can recommend EPI Rent a car that will meet you at Faro airport with your car and meet you at the airport on return.  They are offering us discounted rates and you just need to say you are part of the GMM Ltd Group to access these special rates.

The four-star Magnolia Hotel is located in Quinta do Lago opposite the shopping precinct and less than a 5-minute drive to Vale do Lobo.  The hotel has recently been completely refurbished.

Clothing

The weather on the Algarve in January can be changeable and we advise you to bring some warm clothing and your waterproofs just in case. The dress code for the evenings is casual.

Evening Activities

Not all the local restaurants will be open, but we will recommend a different restaurant each evening for those who wish to remain as part of the group.  You will be completely free to do what you wish in the evenings.

** The tee times at Quinta do Lago North on Monday 15th January are booked from 9.52am to 12.08pm which will allow sufficient time to fly into Faro on that morning and travel to Quinta do Lago North which is approximately 20 mins drive from Faro airport.

Competition Format

The Tournament will be played over 72 holes.

The format will be Individual Stableford with 95% of Course Handicap Allowance.

The winner will be the individual returning the highest aggregate number of points.  In the case of a tie there will be a count back over the last 18 holes, last 9, 6, 3, 1.

Play will be predominantly in fourballs on all four days.

Handicap

The competition is open to all male and female golfers who are current members of a golf club with an active WHS Handicap or the equivalent handicap overseas.

We will need to see proof of your current Handicap Index when you register for the opening round on Thursday morning.

We will reduce handicaps in the competition if necessary, depending on scores.

The maximum playing handicap limits will be 24 for men and 30 for ladies.

Local Rules

The Local Rules as defined on the back of the scorecard will apply throughout the competition.

Prizes

There will be prizes for the leading three scores each day including two Nearest the Pins.

To avoid any excess baggage charges prizes will be in the form of vouchers for the GAGT as follows:

Daily vouchers: 1st - £100, 2nd - £70, 3rd - £50       Overall vouchers:  1st - £200, 2nd £175, 3rd - £150.

GPS Yardage Equipment

The use of GPS and laser distance measuring equipment is permitted during the event.

Sweep

There will be an optional sweep of €40 (€10 per round) which will be split evenly between a 2’s and competition sweep per round.  The sweep is payable in Euros. We will collect the sweep when you check in for the first round. The sweep will be paid out each day.

Nearest the Pins

There will be two Nearest the Pin competitions per round each getting a £25 GAGT voucher.

Order of Merit

Merit points will be awarded for all four competition rounds. You will need to be a current member of the GAGT to qualify for merit points.

Daily Draw

The draw for the first two rounds will be on the website by 5pm on Friday 29th December. The draws for the last two rounds will be made in score order.
